Emotional health and physical health are closely connected. Stress, anxiety, poor sleep, chronic pain, trauma, and major life changes can affect how we feel physically and emotionally—and often influence one another.
Acupuncture can be used as a complementary part of care for people experiencing stress, anxiety, sleep difficulties, and other emotional and physical symptoms. Treatment is individualized and may be used alongside psychotherapy, psychiatric care, medical treatment, recovery programs, and other forms of support.
I have more than 15 years of experience providing acupuncture within multidisciplinary residential behavioral health and addiction treatment settings. During that time, I have worked alongside psychiatrists, therapists, clinical directors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals caring for people with substance-use disorders, trauma histories, chronic pain, anxiety, sleep disturbance, and complex co-occurring conditions.
Addiction & Recovery Support
Acupuncture has also been incorporated into some addiction and recovery programs as a complementary therapy. I have specialized training in auricular acupuncture, including the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol, and extensive experience using acupuncture in residential treatment environments.
Depending on the individual and their treatment plan, acupuncture may be used as supportive care for concerns such as stress, sleep disturbance, physical discomfort, and other symptoms that can arise during recovery.
Acupuncture is not a replacement for medical, psychiatric, or addiction treatment. When appropriate, I believe strongly in working collaboratively with a patient’s existing healthcare and mental-health providers.
